I feel I should point out that the term “sherpa” originally referred to a specific ethnic group of people living in the mountainous regions of Nepal.
It has now more commonly become a hard earned epithet gained primarily by Nepalese climbers [not all of whom are Sherpa] because of their skill in high altitude mountaineering. Their role is one of guide and not merely porter.
