The DIY Bee Gees Kit

Thanks to Silverback for reminding me of another excellent Kenny Everett sketch.

The Bee Gees were everywhere during the 1980s and 90s and they didn't generally like being mocked - they once walked out of the Clive Anderson show on television in 1996 when he kept sniping at them. I once heard one of them (can't remember which) interviewed on the radio going absolutely apoplectic when their works were described as "Meaningless Songs in Very High Voices".

So here is the DIY Bee Gees Kit: enjoy!

I remember that Clive Anderson interview (also to be found on YouTube) and the man may be witty but is as able a chat show host as someone like Graham Norton, someone else who thinks they are more important and interesting than the guest.

When will these people realise that the whole point of chatting with a famous star is to let the star do most of the talking. Jonathan Ross please note.

I don't blame Barry Gibb for leading his brothers off the show. When the host makes it obvious from the start that he has no respect for you and gets in as many little digs and jibes as he can, he deserves to be left alone looking like an idiot.

Oh please don't retire, Parky.

Just my humble opinion of course.

Thank you, Ian - I think there are different kinds of chat shows - some are about the guests (Parkinson, of course) and some, such as Graham Norton, are about the hosts and if guests don't want to be part of that they should keep away.
But Clive Anderson was neither nowt nor summat, as they say round here - he just looked uncomfortable in any situation, though witty, as you say. And with the Bee Gees I think he was hoping to trade on the wit - but he did it in a thoroughly unpleasant way and I think they were right to walk out. I saw it when it was first shown but I had to watch the clip on Youtube from behind the sofa.
